The hotel, the hosts and the story of Hotel Skovly

Our Hotel Skovly is located on a 20,000 square meter natural plot, surrounded by protected forest, 125 meters from one of the Baltic Sea’s finest sandy beaches.

From the hotel’s terrace, you can enjoy the idyllic Blykobbe stream, which winds through the forest on the way to the sea and holds plenty of fish – including sea trout.

In the garden, you can play miniature golf on our own 18-hole course, the oldest in Denmark, relax or go hiking to the beach and the nearby lakes, Safirsøen, Pyritsøen or Smaragdsøen.

Do you want to explore Bornholm, we offer bike rental, and several beautiful and challenging mountain biking trails start right outside the hotel’s front door.

History

Skovly has a long history and has always been a part of life on Bornholm.

Since the early 1800’s, Skovly has been a venue where the people of Rønne and Hasle travelled by foot or horse carriage to enjoy their picnic baskets and each other’s company.

Later it was possible to rent rowing boats and sail on Blykobbe Å, which winds through the hotel’s extensive garden, and in the restaurant, beer, coffee and fried salty herring were served.

From the 1930s and until the late 1970s there was often live music and dancing at Skovly on Saturday nights, and numerous couples have met each other for the first time at Skovly, and later celebrated their wedding, christenings and confirmations of their children, round birthdays and silver and gold anniversaries in the cosy dining hall overlooking the river, the forest and Bornholm’s oldest mini golf course.
