Gravel driving is about getting out and experiencing nature on 2 wheels, away from the asphalt roads, finding the gravel paths and having an absolutely wonderful experience.

 

Riding a gravel is an experience you can get on a gravel bike or on a mountain bike.

 

The area around Hotel Skovly is suitable for exploring on a gravel bike.
From the hotel's car park you can start your adventure - you can drive north and round Hammershus, with the many altitude meters - or drive south and round the Bornholm plains - in addition you can drive towards the center of Bornholm and experience the beautiful and large Almindingen, where you can kindly drive 70+ km in itself

Almindingen and Paradisbakkerne.

The Green Ring is a mountain / gravel track established by DGI and Bornholm's Regional Municipality in 2010. The track can be started and ended at Hotel Skovly. The track is not so well marked - but our routes are as GPX.files on Hotel Skovly's STRAVA profile.

The Green Ring pulls you through 25+ km around Rønne. You will experience driving through disused factory areas, up slalom tracks with a view of Rønne (pictured), past the most beautiful beaches and via Rønne and Nordskoven, back to Hotel Skovly.

Our Hotel Skovly is bike-friendly - so bike-friendly that you are welcome to take your bike in the room.

 

Our rooms and holiday apartments are so large - that you can easily store 2 gravel bikes or mountain bikes.

​

However, we recommend that the bike is cleaned and not filled with mud - and in this connection we refer to our changing area in front of the reception, where you can have the bike washed.

In June 2021, we had a visit from the boys behind "Balsam for Sjælen" - Dean and Anders - who for a whole weekend recorded a good and fun podcast about driving Gravel on Bornholm.

We had them staying at the hotel - and took them on a 50 km beautiful gravel ride towards Hammershus and home through Kleven (the disused railway) and back to Hotel Skovly again.

The podcast was recorded on our large back terrace - with the audience.

You start on our "Skovly trail" and drive along the beach to Hasle - then towards Gines Minde and Jons Kapel, where the first climb comes. Then comes Vang and Vang Quarry where you can taste the breakfast ...! (Increases of + 16%)
Towards Hammershus by Route 10 you drive and at Hammershus itself you have the first 350 hm in your legs ....!

You cross across the island to Rø - find the disused railway - which takes you to Klemenske - further towards Nyker - past the round church and you find again the disused railway - drive past Blykobbe step board, over the field road - down the Kulvejen (or through the forest) down to Hotel Skovly again!

This glorious and beautiful trip has given you about 60 km in the legs and beautiful 650 hm!

Now it's time for a Skovly beer !!!!

Just 14 km from Hotel Skovly you will find Denmark's 3rd largest forest, Almindingen. Here you drive easily 70+ km primarily on gravel.

We usually start our Almindings adventure at Arboreret. We roll up towards Rytterknægten - and start the long descent towards Lilleborg - take the disused railway - and then drive east, west, north and south - to stay within the forest all the time ....!

When you reach Paradisbakkerne - you are in the outer part of the forest - and can turn around - and find new ways back to Arboreret - or take a trip to Nexø for lunch .....!

The tours are primarily in Almindingen - but you will also find rides on the Green Ring - Skovly track - Vang Granitbrud - round trip in Nordlandet by Hammershus - Nordskoven between Hotel Skovly and Rønne and tours by Rytterknægten.

In addition, you will find transport routes to Hammershus, Almindingen and Rø plantation.
